Joey Galloway Signs with the Patriots

This week, 14 season NFL veteran Joey Galloway signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots.

After an injury-plagued season with the Bucs, Galloway had a choice between the super bowl champion Steelers, or the powerhouse Pats.

In the end, the speed combination of himself and Randy moss, and the oppurtunity to play with QB Tom Brady led him to New England.

Coach Bill Belichick has assembled a receiver core destined to repeat their perennial greatness.

Although he is aging, Galloway can still play. Arguably a hall of famer, Galloway is still very fast and provides a deep threat in any system.

I hope that Galloway can assist Tom Brady come back from his horrific knee injury in week 1 of last season. Galloway will help return the Pats to the playoffs, and they hope that their defense can take them back to the Super Bowl.

T.O. Signs with The Bills

As I reported earlier, Terrell Owens is no longer a Dallas Cowboy.

He is now a Buffalo Bill. Less than 72 hours after being released, Owens signed a 1 year, $6.5 million deal with the squad.

Quaterback Trent Edwards reportedly convinced the 90 year-old owner to go after T.O. And he did. After little negotiation with agent Drew Rosenhaus, the deal was finalized.

Buffalo provides a new challenge for T.O. The small city may not appeal to him, due to the fact that he thrives on the spotlight. Also, T.O. has never played in weather like northwest New York state.

Unfortunately, I feel that there will inevitably be drama with him. Trent Edwards hasn't proved himself as an elite QB and eventually T.O. will become publicly frustrated with his lack of touches. So, it seems like after next year he'll be gone from buffalo and off to somewhere else to ruin the locker room and make a million dollars less until nothings less.

Perhaps the tough head coach Dick Jauron will be able to straighten him out.....nah, if Bill Parcells couldn't do it, no one can.

Terrell Owens Released

Late Wedensday night, the marriage between Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys and out-spoken wide receiver, Terrell Owens, ended.

After 3 semi-productive seasons, the Cowboys released Owen's due to internal issues.

Owens, known for his big mouth and negative effect on a locker room, was disrupting off the field more than he was producing on the field.

His comments this year towards quarterback Tony Romo weren't the first of that kind. He was let go in both San Francisco and Philadelphia for publicly critizing Jeff Garcia and Donovan McNabb, respectively.

Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has proclaimed that several teams are interested in his client. This hard to believe, however, when you conisider both Owens' and Rosenhaus' reputations. Most experts calculate that there are about 3 possibilties for him to land. The most likely of which would be the Oakland Raiders, whom have never turned down a great talent based on their attitude. Perhaps that's why they've had the worst collective record the past 5 seasons.

The Cowboys absolutely did the right thing by releasing T.O. He was disrupting the already torn locker room and was critical in their bomb of a 2008 season. The team now belongs to Tony Romo who is supposedly going to return the Cowboys to their former glory. I pray that the Bears stay away from Owens.

Manny Ramirez Signs with The Dodgers

After months of negotiations, Manny Ramirez is once again a Los Angeles Dodger.

The Boston Red Sox sent Manny to the Dodgers in the middle of the season last year after both sides had had enough of each other.

This off-season, Manny's contract expired and he became a free agent.

After not garnering much interest due to his erratic behavior, the Dodgers were the most like destination.

Agent Scott Boras negotiated endlessly for his client, eventually agreeing to a 2-year $45 million contract. The first year will cost the team $25 million, and if he chooses to stay for a second year(which is unlikely), he will receive the remaining $20 million.

Nobody can argue Manny's numbers. He is a perennial 40 home run hitter and is consistently an all-star. He will provide a big bat in the middle of the Dodger's line-up, making them the favorites in the NL west.

I almost feel sympathetic for the Dodgers. They were bullied by Ramirez's agent until they threw $25 million a year at Manny. Manny won't do much for team chemistry; he is notoriously outspoken and has been ridiculed by former teammates. This is a $45 million risk for the Dodgers.

Albert Haynesworth Becomes Highest Paid Defendesive Player

Soon after free agency began at midnight on Feb. 27 Albert Haynesworth signed a 7-year 100 million dollar contract with the Washington Redskins.

After an all-pro season with the Titans, Haynesworth was considered the cream of this year's free agent crop.

With this contract, Haynesworth has become the highest paid non-quarterback of all time.

The Redskins are not afraid to spend money, but this is almost appalling considering the state of our economy.

I feel that with the addition of Haynesworth and a few other players, the 'Skins are legitimate title contenders.

The Titans will certainly be hurt by this, for he was a major reason why the held the AFC's best record last year. However they have depth at that position and should be fine.

Colts Release Harrison After 13 Seasons

Today, after 13 extremely productive seasons, The Indianapolis Colts and wide receiver Marvin Harrison parted ways.

Harrison is second on the all time receptions list, behind only the great Jerry Rice.

In the late Nineties through around 2007 quarterback Peyton Manning and Harrison formed the most dangerous quaterback/wide receiver combination of all time, winning a super bowl in '07 (against the Bears :[ )

However, with age came injuries and limited playing time for Harrison. On top of injuries, a shooting scandal plagued him off the field.

Harrison still feels like he is the same great player, however he and the Colts were not on the same page. Harrison is due $13 million next season and felt that he deserved more. After failing to settle on an extension, Harrison was released.

To me, this transaction is not a shocker. Harrison is going to be 37 years old next year, way past his prime. Also, with the recent retirement of long-time coach Tony Dungy, Harrison didn't feel the same attachment to the team. I'm sure this is saddening for Peyton Manning, but I'm sure the reigning MVP Manning will make it work without him.

Possible destinations for Harrison include Philadelphia and San Francisco. I would love to see the Bears make a run at him for 1 year to teach their young receivers a thing or two.

Tyson Chandler Traded... Then Back Again

This week, 7-footer Tyson Chandler was traded to the lowly Okalhoma City Thunder.

However, as the trade progressed he failed the standard procedure physical.

After an all-star caliber season last year with the Hornets, he has had an injury-plagued season this year.

The Thunder said his big toe is just waiting to be re-injured, therefore they nixed the trade and sent him back to the team that dumped him.

The Hornet's players love it because he's a great teammate and athlete. However, this will obviously lead to a certain level of awkwardness between Chandler and the Hornet's front office, for they didnt want him around anymore.

This may be a blessing in disguise, however. The mediocre Hornets hope to make a 2nd half run with Chandler and all-star point guard Chris Paul. Last year, the struggling city of New Orleans rallied around the perrenial losers and sparked a certain passion the city hasn't seen in years.

This botched trade will seemingly work out well for both the Hornets and the Thunder. Chandler is one of the league's good guys and I wish nothing but the best for him.
